     TRAUMA

Trauma is as an experience that overwhelms one's capacity to cope in the moment. Trauma negatively impacts self-esteem and self worth leaving you to feel sad, angry, alone, and hopeless. Chronic trauma such as abuse, loss, and abandonment can lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Repeated trauma can sometimes create what are called dissociative states. This is where a person feels as if they aren't fully present in the moment, and forgets major periods of time in life.

Traumatized people often find themselves reacting within close relationships in ways that do not make sense to them and others, which causes problems. They often feel numb, depressed, anxious, disconnected from themselves and others, as if they not living a meaningful life.
Symptoms of TRAUMA and PTSD
  • Anxiety such as panic attacks or free floating general anxiety
  • Nightmares about the traumatic event
  • Quick startle response to stimuli like noises, people, or reminders of the trauma
  • Avoidance of stimuli related to the trauma
  • Feeling alone, numb, bad, confused, unhappy, and disconnected from others
  • Depression
  • Self harming behavior including over-eating and substance abuse
  • Losing portions of memories or time
  • Not being able to recall major details from certain periods of life
  • Anger that may seem out of proportion to a current situation
  • Flashbacks to events of the trauma
